Chinova Bioworks is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a Research Scientist - Product Development & Innovation. This position reports to the Head of Product Development.

We make new functional ingredients for the food and beverage industry that help our clients meet major consumer trends for clean label and healthy shelf life extension. This position is for our office and lab in Fredericton, NB.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design and conduct experiments to investigate and analyze scientific phenomena

  • Extrapolate data to develop theories that aim to explain these phenomena

  • Craft and propose novel, scientifically rigorous research ideas

  • Promote beneficence and minimize risks

  • Conduct in-house research presentations

  • Maintain comprehensive laboratory notebooks, a neat and orderly laboratory workplace, and adhere to laboratory quality plans, QA/QC measures, and SOPs

  • Work safely and contribute to updating and improving laboratory safety practices

  • Supervise support laboratory staff, ensuring maintenance of laboratory equipment, and generation and reporting of high-quality analytical results

  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies 

  • Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices

  • Work in a rapid, agile, and thorough manner in support of a diverse work portfolio

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol

  • Knowledge of scientific approaches and methodologies

  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise

  • Knowledge of scientific research principles, practices, and protocols

  • Ability to design, organize, and coordinate scientific research projects

  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures

Education / Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field

  • Experience in a lab environment
